Ascension of Bahá'u'lláh (uh-sen-shn of Ba-ha-ul-LAH)

Bahá'u'lláh was the prophet-founder and leader of the Baha’i faith. On May 29, 1892, he passed away. His tomb is known as the Shrine of Bahá'u'lláh and is in Bahji or present-day Israel. It is the Point of Adoration that Baha’ís turn to when reciting the Obligatory Prayer. While some wondered if the faith would die with Bahá'u'lláh, it survived and flourished after his death.

Common Practices

Baha’ís typically celebrate the Ascension of Bahá'u'lláh by gathering in devotion and prayers. Their meetings will be somber and meditative as they remember him. Families will usually stay home as this is one of the nine holy days of the Baha’i calendar. On these days, work is suspended, and schools are closed.

Community Considerations

Avoid scheduling important events or activities, especially at night. Do not expect believers to attend meetings or classes.
