Eid al-Ghadeer is only celebrated by Shia Muslims and commemorates the naming of Ali ibn Abi Talib as the successor of his cousin, the Prophet Muhammed, when many Muslims pledged their loyalty to him as their new spiritual leader.
Believers often give presents, take ritual baths, eat celebratory meals, fast, and wear their best clothes. A special prayer is sometimes recited, thanking Allah for the infallibility and faithfulness of His imams.
Do not schedule important events or activities on this date. Expect that observers will not attend meetings or communicate.
