Martyrdom of the Báb (Bob)

The Martyrdom of the Báb commemorates the execution of the Báb, one of the co-founders of the Baha’i faith. The Báb was executed on July 9, 1850, by the Prime Minister of the Persian Empire for apostasy or rejecting the dominant faith. The Báb survived the first firing squad and was found unharmed in his prison cell; however, the second firing squad killed him.

Common Practices

The Martyrdom of the Báb is one of nine holy days when Baha’is take off work and school. They also read the Tablets of Visitation, which signifies the passing of an important figure in the faith.

Do not schedule important events or activities. Expect that observers will not attend meetings or classes and will likely not communicate.
