Get advanced Bitcoin education here: In this video, I discuss the interplay between Bitcoin's scarcity, its utility, and its valuation. Scarce things are not necessarily valuable, unless they are also useful. Bitcoin is an extremely useful monetary technology that allows anyone to exchange economic value with anyone else in the world, without needing to ask permission or involve a third party. Bitcoin is also useful, in that it doesn't require a bank account or brokerage account to hold, unlike stocks, bonds, and other financial assets. If you hold your own keys, Bitcoin is a bearer asset with zero counter-party risk. Bitcoin's scarcity relative to fiat ensures that it will pump forever, which makes it more valuable today, as more and more people wake up to this fact. I also discuss the concept of "intrinsic value," which doesn't exist for Bitcoin or any other asset. The value of things is not inscribed deep inside of them, nor set by the amount of labor input (pace Marx), but rather by the free market. I also discuss the idea of a "monetary premium," and how this can help us to understand why Bitcoin is a much better form of money than copper, silver, or gold. Not investment advice! Consult a financial advisor.
