As the academic year comes to a close, students, faculty, staff and families are invited to attend year-end celebrations across the units supported by the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs (OVPDEMA). With events being held across OVPDEMA’s cultural centers and scholar programs, there will be plenty of ways to come together at the end of the year and celebrate the success of OVPDEMA students.
“The end-of-year celebrations taking place throughout OVPDEMA are truly some of the most heartwarming events we host each year,” said James Wimbush, vice president for diversity, equity and multicultural affairs, dean of The University Graduate School and Johnson Chair for Diversity and Leadership. “I hope all of our graduates and their families make time to join us in celebrating the remarkable things they have achieved at Indiana University.”
"At the end of a busy academic year, it is so important to take time and recognize the remarkable achievements of our OVPDEMA students,” said Yolanda Treviño, assistant vice president for strategy, planning and assessment with OVPDEMA. “By gathering at the year-end celebrations happening across OVPDEMA units, we honor student success, recognize student excellence, and thank those who helped make their transformational experiences possible at IU."
Held throughout late April and early May, OVPDEMA’s various year-end celebrations will offer a variety of opportunities for students to celebrate their success. Several centers, such as the Asian Culture Center and the First Nations Educational and Cultural Center, will host broader celebrations of students’ achievements, including those graduating from IU this year. Other celebrations, such as those held by the Hudson and Holland Scholars Program and La Casa, will allow graduates and their families a chance to celebrate their success at IU and mark the beginning of the next stage in their lives.
“The end-of-year celebration for us is really an opportunity for students to celebrate all the work they’ve done as a group, to celebrate their successes together,” said Nicky Belle, director of the First Nations Educational and Cultural Center.
