Ascension Day (uh-sen-shn day)
Ascension Day, commonly called “Holy Thursday,” celebrates Jesus’s return to Heaven. It is generally celebrated on a Thursday 40 days following Easter as, according to the Christian Bible, Jesus brought his apostles to the Mount of Olives, where he ascended back into Heaven forty days after his resurrection. Believers celebrate Ascension Day to commemorate Jesus’s victory over death and his salvation of all those who believe in him and his exultation. It marks the end of the Easter celebration.
